ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games produced thousands of different communication and marketing publications. These materials were created using internal and external creatives, advertising agencies and publishing companies, often under tight and stressful deadlines.  Each designer created their own interpretation of the ATHENS 2004 brand identity, resulting in many visual inconsistencies.

The solution was the development of the ATHENS 2004 Publication Guidelines. A flexible layout structure was created that could be applied to any publication size, shape or content. Master artworks were then produced which included standardised grids, typography, graphics and colours. Key pre-positioned graphic elements were also included to ensure consistent size and placement. Technical instructions were supplied together with the master artworks to ensure correct usage of all design elements.

The final result, a unified visual design language across all ATHENS 2004 Olympic and Paralympic publications.
